Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Matthew 24:35 NKJV

Midweek thoughts on God from the Bible

Unchanging.  There is only One who is unchanging.  Have you thought about that?  Water flows and changes direction.  Trees change with the seasons and grow taller each year.  Mountains even change depending on the season, the animals, the vegetation, and even the weather.  Everything changes.  We should all have an understanding of change due to how the past year and a half has gone.  If you think about it, things always change.

There is One though who does not change.  God is everlasting.  Even in the Bible, God states: “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”  Malachi 3:6 ESV

There are several places in the Bible where it talks about God being unchanging and faithful.  “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”  Hebrews 10:23 NKJV

God’s character never changes.  He even made an oath to all and His oath will not change.  What God promises is unchanging and He will be faithful in all His promises.  “So, when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,” Hebrews 6:17 ESV

Even Jesus does not change.  He is as He was from the very beginning.  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 NKJV Throughout all of this, His love never changes.  His promises are true.  Isn’t it wonderful to see the One who never changes, always at work in the world around you?  Preparing for His soon coming when His promise of life everlasting with Him is fulfilled.  Praise God!
