To Serve

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:13 NKJV

To Serve

A devotional for April 25th through May 1st

Do you like to serve others?  Do you take time out of your day to do a good deed for others?  Jesus came to serve, not to be served.  And we are called to serve others just as Jesus did.  Serving others and taking care of our community shows our love for God as well as our love for others.  Serving is also a great way to benefit yourself while you are showing God’s love to others.

Today, our church did a volunteer project for the 712 Initiative.  We love our community and we want to make sure our church is having a positive impact on our community.  So, we quite often will volunteer for various organizations, do drives to collect donations for various organizations such as food banks or homeless shelters.  We don’t do this for ourselves, we do it to show God’s love to others.  We do it because we want to be like Jesus.  We want to serve.

If you are depressed, going through a hard time, or just have some free time and want to do good, volunteer!  Doing good for others can lift your mood, make you feel better, teach you about others and their struggles, and ultimately, show others that God is a God of love who sends people, regular people like you, to be an angel on earth to someone who needs a blessing.  By blessing others, we ourselves are blessed.

Don’t do it for a reward.  No, that is not the right attitude.  Do it because you want to serve, you want to help, you want to benefit others.  Giving of yourself you can actually gain and not only be a blessing to those around you, as well as your community, but you can also receive a blessing.  Do something for others.  Even something you think is small.  It will have a huge impact on others.  Kindness spreads kindness.  Let’s spread a little love and kindness now!
