Today I am giving you a choice of two ways. And I ask heaven and earth to be witnesses of your choice. You can choose life or death. The first choice will bring a blessing. The other choice will bring a curse. So choose life! Then you and your children will live.

Deuteronomy 30:19 ERV

Midweek thoughts

Everything we do, from the time we wake in the morning until we lay our heads down to rest at night, is a choice.  When we wake in the morning the choices start.  Do we open our eyes and get out of bed or do we hit the snooze and roll over to go back to sleep?  Do we wear the blue shirt or the purple?  Do we have eggs for breakfast or cereal?  Every little (and sometimes big) thing we do is a choice.  Often, we don’t think about much of what we do throughout the day as being a choice, but it is.

There are so many choices out there.  Some are big such as “what car should I buy”, “what house should I get”, “which job do I take”, just some of the choices we face.  Our behaviors are also choices.  Some people make bad choices.  They choose to be dishonest, to steal, to lie, to cheat others.  Some choose to stay the course and do the right thing, even if it isn’t popular.  Some choices are easy, some not so much.

So how do you try to make good choices?  Make the right choice?  It isn’t easy sometimes but there is One who can help.  If you have a tough decision to make try praying.  Praying and asking God’s guidance goes a long way.  Look in the Bible.  There are many places in the Bible that can help with what choice to make.  Ultimately, ask yourself “is this something Jesus would do?” and then listen for the answer.  Sometimes we are uncomfortable with doing the right thing.  Maybe it isn’t as fun as doing the other.  But stepping out of our comfort zone and into the right choices God wants us to make go a long way for assuring our eternal life with our heavenly Father.  Choose life!
