words

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.

Proverbs 12:18 NKJV

Words.  They are so much more important than we sometimes realize.  They can wound the heart or lift it up.  Many times, we don’t think about the impact our words might have on another person.  Sometimes our emotions get the best of us, and we speak before we think.  This can have dire consequences.

A few words spoken from an angry heart can tear down the heart of another.  It can leave the other person with a wound they don’t know how to heal.  It could fester to their very core, affecting how they are to others, lead to depression and withdrawal, or even lead someone down a whole other path then they were on, one that is dark and lonely.

On the other hand, a few words spoken from a loving heart, a caring heart, can boost the other person so high, they never come down.  They can lift the other person up so much that their path diverts to a better place.  A place of peace and hope.  A place of caring and love.  The place we were all meant to be in.

God means for us to be in a place of love and caring.  God means for us to be in a place of peace.  God means for us to speak words that are lifting, and not words that tear each other down.  God directs us, “to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men”.  (Titus 3:2 NKJV)

When we are angry or upset, we need to take a moment to think about our words.  Think about how to say something that perhaps needs to be said but backed by love and a caring heart.  How can we say something that will lift and not tear down?  Think and ask God for his guidance.  Say a few words today to lift another person.  It will lift your heart as well.
