Women Uplifting Women

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Titus 2:3-5 ESV

A devotional for September 17th through the 23rd

This past Friday, a group of us ladies from church gathered together and went to our annual Women’s Retreat for the Iowa-Missouri Conference.  This is something I have done for several years now and love it when I can get a group to go with me.  I find there is something special about spending time bonding with other women.  We women need that, just as men need their time to bond together.  Women have a unique way of being able to support and uplift each other.  It is also something that God felt was important to.

When we go, we usually travel together to the conference, talking all the way.  This begins the process of bonding and learning more about each other.  At the conference, we spend time together listening to great speakers who present a message that touches, inspires, and uplifts.  There are sessions you can go to where information is presented about an array of topics.  This year’s main theme was “Life More Abundantly”.

The time spent getting to know each other, laughing, discussing, listening, and just sharing can do so much to uplift any woman.  There can be challenges, things that don’t go quite as they should, but together each woman is able to support the other and find either humor or grace through it all.  A discussion that we had during the trip about the need for women’s ministry led us to the above verses in Titus.  God knows women need to lead other women, to support other women and help them to grow.  Time spent together in a way such as this helps you to feel the importance and to understand why God wants women to support other women.

Spend time either mentoring or being a mentee to another woman.  Spend time bonding with other women.  The support and insight gained brings so much peace, warmth, and love.  It is what we need, and God knows how important it is.
