When the Ceiling falls on you, Rejoice!

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

James 1:2-4 NKJV

Midweek thoughts

There are often times when we go through difficult times.  Things happen we don’t expect, and we try and work our way through them the best we can.  Sometimes, while we are dealing with a difficult situation, more things happen that further test us.  My husband and I have been dealing with just such a situation.

We discovered we needed to replace the roof of our house.  Not just the shingles but the whole roof, boards and all.  There were things wrong with our roof that were causing water to damage the wood underneath the shingles.  We were not prepared for this but proceeded forward, talking to God the whole way.  Do you know what can happen when an old house has the entire roof, including boards, replaced?  Well one thing that can happen is part of the ceiling could fall.  It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen, and did!

While I was working (I work from home) in my office area, a decent sized piece of ceiling, the drywall, came crashing down right on top of me.  In disbelief, I looked up to see one of the workers looking down at me in shock.  I was covered with insulation.  This put a stop to my workday.  I found myself going about the rest of the day making jokes and giggling about the whole situation.  I also found myself praising God for His protection.

Even when things don’t go quite right, God is there.  It may not always seem like it, but He is there.  Even though things didn’t go well, He took care of me and the situation.  He helped to work out all the different parts, so it really wasn’t that bad.  I know He protected me, and He guided everything that happened, even if not all the parties knew it.  The hole got fixed.  The area was cleaned. The roof is now replaced and done right.  And I have seen God work through it all.

When the ceiling falls, praise His Holy Name!  Rejoice!  He’s right there to help pick up the pieces.
