Ups, Downs, and Blessings

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’

Joshua 1:9 ESV

A devotion for December 3rd through the 9th

There are many things that have been going through my head lately.  We all have those times where we are up and times when we are down.  It’s like a roller coaster.  Sometimes things are level and smooth, other times we slowly go up to the top where we feel like we are on the top of the world, and then there are those times where we plummet down the hill into a very low place.  Sometimes it’s hard to get ourselves out of the low places.

I have felt all those things lately.  Highs, lows, and everything in between.  I have felt these things my whole life.  Every time I was low, I felt like I had to just buck up and keep on going, trudging through until I found a better path, just trying to get through life while looking for the high spots again.  Now I realize that I can’t do it alone.  I have found many people I can turn to for support and help.  Most importantly, I have found my strongest support, God.

I am grateful for every person that has come into my life to show me I am not alone.  I have support and I can be a support.  This has done a great deal to help me.  I have those I can turn to.  Best of all, I have God to talk to and to turn to.  His Word is so full of encouragement.  His Word directs us to count our blessings.

This life in this world can be so draining and can bring us down so quickly.  If we turn to others for support, if we turn to Him and His Word, we can find the strength we need to get through the down times and back up to the light.

When we are in down times, look up to Him and count all the ups that we have been blessed with.  His blessings are all around us.
