To Walk Where Jesus Walked

Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David.

Isaiah 55:2-3 NKJV

A devotion for September 25th through October 1st

I was reading a devotion the other night by Mark Finley, that talked about a time when he had the privilege of going to the island of Patmos, where John was exiled.  This devotion got me thinking about how wonderful it would be to travel to the Holy Land and experience walking where Jesus walked.  Touring all the various places Jesus once visited.  This is something many people do every year but something my husband and I have not done.

I began thinking about the various places in the bible that talk about Jesus and where he walked.  One of those being in Matthew 14:22-34, is one we really can’t do.  After all, in this story He walked on water.  This would be rather difficult for us as mere humans.  For the son of God, it was nothing.

Jesus went to Jerusalem many times throughout his life.  There are many stories in the bible that mention Jerusalem, or even places very close to Jerusalem, such as the Mount of Olives.  On the western slope of the Mount of Olives was the garden of Gethsemane.  Jesus often went there to pray (Matthew 26:36).  This was also where He was when He was arrested right before His final walk, to the cross. (Matthew 26:36-56, Luke 22:39-46, and John 13:21 – 14:31)

I have thought about how it would be walking where Jesus walked when He was here but then I had another thought.  Something far greater than walking in Jerusalem or the garden of Gethsemane.  These would be moments of contemplation in this life which we should do no matter where we are.  The greatest moment, and the one I long the most for, is bowing down at His feet for all eternity, praising Him for the sacrifice He made for me.  He walked in those places all so I could walk with Him for eternity.

That’s where I truly want to walk.  With Jesus for eternity.
