To Change

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV

A devotional for October 9th through the 15th

I have been participating in an Emerging Leaders program at work.  Much of what we have been learning are skills that work also in our personal lives.  Things that can help us be better people all the way around.  This month’s lessons are all about change.  My company even sent us all a book by Dr. Spencer Johnson entitled “Who Moved My Cheese? An amazing way to deal with change in your work and in your life”.  It’s a quick read and good.

I feel that my thoughts about change have “changed” over the years.  I used to be more afraid of change and liked things being the same.  Now I see that I’m a little of each character in the book.  I see that while there is some fear in the unknown of change, there is also the fear of not changing.  I’ve been thinking about this in relation to my spiritual walk.

We often fear the unknown.  We are comfortable in how things are and really don’t want to change anything.  We like comfort, we don’t like the unknown.  The funny thing is, the Bible spells out so much and really takes a great deal of the unknown away.  Oh, there are still things we are not sure of, but it gives you such a glorious picture of the future when Jesus returns that it spurs you on to pursue just that.

Studying the Bible more and more, learning as much as I can about God’s promises and what eternity with Him would be like, pushes me to change the bad behaviors I have to the ones that lead me to Him and all His promises.  Seeing just how much He loves each and every one of us, the depth of that love and the price paid in blood, how could I not want to change for the better!

Don’t be afraid of change.  The right kind of change can lead to the best possible eternity with the One who loves us more than any other.  Take that leap of faith.  Make the change.  Eternity is so worth it!
