The Sign

A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

Proverbs 1:5 NKJV

There is a sign not far from where we live.  It’s one of those that the message is changed regularly.  For a while the message it said was “God speaks only as loud as you are willing to listen” or something to that effect.  We felt this was a very good message and read it every time we went by it while it was there.  It’s a very true statement.  If we are willing to listen to Him, He will speak loudly.  If we are not willing to listen and keep turning our own way, His voice becomes a whisper.

I’m reminded of this sign after thinking about an activity we did in my youth Sabbath school.  We had a question to take a list of 5 statements and list them in priority, 1-5 with 1 being the first or most important and 5 being the last or least.  The activity talked about warnings of catastrophes.  Who would we want to be warned first and so on.  It seemed like a simple activity and pretty straight forward.  Until we got to talking about it and thinking about it in connection to the story of Lot being warned about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19).

God gave warnings then, as well as many other times in many of stories in the Bible.  So many times, man did not listen.  Noah spoke for many years while building the ark (Genesis 6).  No one listened.  Story after story we read how man did not take heed of God’s warnings.  So, have we learned anything?  God is still giving us warnings.  It seems like man is still not listening.

Spend time studying the Bible.  Spend time in prayer, talking with our Heavenly Father. Spend time contemplating all Jesus went through for us, for our salvation.  The more time spent with Him, the more you can hear him speaking.  The more you can hear His warning.

Be prepared.  Jesus is coming soon.
