The Right Path

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

Midweek thoughts

Today I had the pleasure of giving a ride home to a young girl from my church.  We were all there at the same time.  She was helping her dad with mowing, and I was doing the bulletin.  I needed to run home for something, and she looked like she needed a ride, so I asked.  She gladly accepted the ride home.  We chatted on the way.  She talked about a friend and how the friend was supposed to go with her last weekend to an event, but the friend had gotten into trouble and was grounded.  She said she was proud of her friend’s mom for standing her ground.  She said it was frustrating, but she understood.  I found myself sharing with her that it’s kind of like us and God.

We, as sinful humans with sinful natures, tend to not like it when God’s word steps on our toes.  We want to do what we want to do, the seemingly fun things.  We don’t want to do what we should do.  That just doesn’t sound like fun.  It’s much more fun to just go do what we want to.  But there are consequences for our choices.

Sometimes the consequences are mild and don’t last long, like being grounded and not being able to go somewhere we hoped to go.  Other times, the choices we make have eternal consequences.  What we need to realize is that even the small things can have a big impact.  If we allow the small things, then it can lead to bigger.  We start going down the wrong path.  Away from God.

If we listen to God, read His word, and it steps on our toes then we need to make a change.  God is trying to lead us to the right path, the one that leads to everlasting peace with Him.  An eternity in the arms of a loving Father who loves us so much He sent Jesus to die on a cross to save us all.

With the kind of love God shows us, shouldn’t we make the right choice and choose Him?
