The Promised Land

On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—

Genesis 15:18 NKJV

A devotional for October 24th through the 30th

The promised land in the Bible was a geographic area God swore to give to His chosen people, the descendants of Abraham. God made this promise to Abraham and his descendants in Genesis 15:15–21. The territory was located in ancient Canaan, on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. Numbers 34:1-12 details its exact boundaries.  We have been studying about the Exodus, the Covenant promise, and many things surrounding that time.

I have heard about this so often through the studies and reading the Bible.  There is so much in there about the Israelites and the promised land.  The other day, God put it in a new perspective for me that I really hadn’t thought about before.

We have been studying about the covenant promise which is still in effect today.  It applies to each of us as much as it did to the Israelites back then.  God promises us a land of peace, flowing with “milk and honey”.  God made the promise to Abraham but it still applies to all of us.  We are all descendants of the promise.

When Jesus returns, His chosen people, those who follow His commandments and hold fast to Jesus, will be taken up and given the promised land!  I long for Jesus’ return.  The Promised Land that was a part of that covenant so long ago will then be given to us!  The peace, beauty, and all good will be for us.  What a wonderful promise!

Keep in mind all the parts of the covenant, hold true to our part, and praise God for His promises, especially the promise of being brought to the Promised Land!  God is so, so great!
