The Gentle Hand

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.

Nahum 1:7 NKJV

Midweek thoughts

Sometimes, as we ride this roller coaster called life, we end up in a deep, dark pit of despair and it seems like the ride has just stopped there.  One thing after another comes at us like a speeding train, knocking us off our feet once again.  Every time we think we are going to start moving forward, moving up out of the pit and to a high point, we get slammed back down.  Soon, we don’t know how to get out of that dark place.  But there is a light.

Just like a train going through a long, dark tunnel, there is a light at the other end.  It shines bright, pulling at us, urging us forward, with a hand outstretched.  It might be a loved one offering a hug.  It might be a calming arm hung over our shoulder.  It might be the quiet peace while we sit in a park.  Ultimately, it is God’s hand reaching out to us.

God tries to comfort us, reassure us, help us out of the pit.  He does this by sending people to offer an encouraging word, a hug, or just a smile on the street.  Sometimes it’s a gentle hand reaching out to hold yours.  Sometimes He puts us in places we may not expect and puts things in our path that say, “I am here”.  Sometimes just sitting outside, listening to the birds and the breeze blowing through the trees, if we take a moment to just breathe, we can hear Him say, “I am here, and I love you”.

When life seems to be hitting you from every angle, when you are constantly being hit with thing after thing, event after event, take a moment to just breathe and look for the signs that are all around you saying, “I have so much better in store for you, just wait”.  Hold onto that promise from God.  It may not happen today, tomorrow, or even next month, but one day it will happen.  Jesus will come and all the speeding trains and roller coasters of this life will be gone.  We will be left with peace and love.  Trust in Him.
