The Door to the Sheepfold

Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 10:7-10 NKJV

Midweek Thoughts

The verse John 10:10 was the main verse for the recent Women’s Retreat presentations.  There were various versions used and much presented about Jesus and living life more abundantly.  One part I remember that I thought was so interesting was about the sheepfold and the door.

In biblical times, a sheepfold was made of stone stacked up to create either a round or square enclosure, like a fence.  There was only one opening on one part which was the “door”.  When the sheep were in the sheepfold, the shepherd would stand or sit in the doorway to ensure no one would get in.  The shepherd would guard the sheep, protecting them.  As the Bible states, Jesus is our shepherd, our door if you will.

We are the sheep and Jesus is our shepherd.  We need to learn His voice so we can follow only His voice.  When we listen only to His voice and follow Him, He will protect us.  He will go before us and shield us.  He will be the door, not allowing evil in.  When we go through the door, Jesus, to the sheepfold, He becomes our redeemer.

Listen to His voice.  Follow only His voice.  He stands at the door guarding us.  Because of Him we can live life more abundantly!
