The Display

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

Midweek Thoughts

As you know, yesterday was the 4th of July.  Independence Day for those in the United States.  It’s quite the celebration here.  There are firework displays put on by counties, cities, towns, businesses, you name it.  Not to mention all the private individuals who spend quite a bit doing their own fireworks at home.  From small, low to the ground ones to the large ones that burst high in the sky into sparkling flowers or what have you, they are all pretty and everyone seems to like to shoot them off.  Well, almost everyone. Veterans and pets don’t care for them so much.

Our dog does not like this time of year and will refuse to go outside when they are being set off.  We got in the habit last year of taking our dog for a ride to a rest area not too far away so he can go run around and do his business without the fear of a loud bang.  So last night that is what we did.  Did we miss out on the fireworks show?  Not at all.  You see, God provided the best show of all.

While driving down we could see the sun setting off in the distance with yellow and golden colors flooding the sky.  Around the sunset were dark clouds as a storm was also rolling in.  As we finished at the rest stop and headed to a nearby gas station for a drink, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow opposite the setting sun.  We could see a full one and then right beside it, part of a second one.  A double rainbow, God’s sign.

As we left the gas station and proceeded home, we were treated to a lightning show like none other.  Beautiful light streaked through the sky in various places.  Behind clouds, you could see light flickering, illuminating the clouds for a moment.  It was all around us, everywhere we looked.  It was beautiful and fascinating.  God putting on a show that showed His might.  Couldn’t get any better than that.

The next time you are outside walking in a park, fishing at a lake, or taking your dog out for an evening romp in the grass, take the time to notice all the ways God shows His love and might through all his creations.  From the smallest insect to the mighty lightning show during a storm, His creation is a testimony to His love and grace.
