The Dark Place

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

John 8:12 NKJV

Midweek Thoughts

Sometimes we feel like we are in a dark place.  We can’t see a way out.  We reach out looking for a door and find nothing.  We’re stuck in the darkness.  We cry out hoping someone will hear us.  We think we hear something, but then we turn away thinking “no, it’s no one.  I’m alone”.  We feel like no one is there for us, no one will help us.  We feel lost.  Hopeless.

Many times, when we are in the dark places, people are there, trying to reach us.  Like a drowning person, we push away the help.  We often don’t realize it, but we do.  We don’t realize that the reaching hand, the words of encouragement, are trying to help.  We close our eyes, turn away, and remain in the darkness.

It’s hard, as the one trying to help, trying to lift us out of the darkness, to realize that we need to keep reaching, keep encouraging, keep shining that light, even when it’s being pushed away.  We need to remember to pray.  We try to shine the light on the one in darkness, but it’s really up to someone else to push us to that light.

We shine a light for those in the darkness, sometimes the ones in the darkness are ourselves.  But it is the Holy Spirit who we need to ask for.  We need to pray for the Holy Spirit to come and make the light brighter.

Whether it is for us as we search the Bible for God’s truth, or for another that we want to share God’s love with, we need to pray.  The seed is planted in darkness, God makes it bloom to a beautiful rose.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to water the small seed that is in the darkness.
