The Card

It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’

Matthew 13:32 ESV

Midweek Thoughts

Have you ever had someone that you felt the need to do something for?  You felt they were down or struggling and you just want to help?  What did you come up with?  We often have people in our lives, family, friends, or maybe just someone that we cross paths with that we feel the urge to do something.  We see that they are going through something, and we just want to help.  Sometimes thinking of something to do can be hard.  Sometimes it’s as simple as mailing a card.

At our church we have someone who oversees a card ministry.  We thought it would be nice to send cards out periodically to some of the members who can’t make it to church, special events in members lives, or members who just need some extra love.  Sometimes the people are not even members, but we feel the need to send a card.  This is usually God’s gentle nudge.

Recently, a new friend who is not a member, has been struggling and we haven’t seen her like we had.  We’ve all been missing her and anxiously waiting for her to return.  I’ve kept contact with her and text and call at least once a week to check on her and see how she is doing.  Last week I was moved to speak to the card ministry person and requested the church send her a card.  The response I heard back from her was so heartwarming.

I had met with her earlier in the day and I could tell she was stressed and going through so much.  I had forgotten about the card, but God didn’t.  His timing was perfect!  She texted me later and said she got the most heartwarming card in the mail.  It was signed by everyone and a couple of the small children at church put a special message on the back.  The text message was full of how much love she felt just from receiving that card in the mail.

When God places something on our hearts, we need to listen.  We need to act on it.  He is wanting to use us to make a difference and show His love.  It’s the little things in life that mean the most.

Make someone’s day today.  Mail them a card!  The impact it makes will be priceless!
