’For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
We had a special speaker this past Sabbath from ACS (Adventist Community Services). Our church was getting information to decide if we wanted to establish ACS in our church so we can expand our community service ministry and have resources to properly focus our interests. The Iowa ACS Director was kind enough to come out, present to both our business meeting and after church service as well as giving the sermon. It was truly a blessing.
During the sermon, the parable of the talents was used. I really like this parable, along with all the rest! This was a wonderful message and tied in so well with service. It also tied into a quote I read in the youth Sabbath school lesson, InVerse. The quote goes like this, “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!” spoken by Nick Vujicic. Nick was born with no arms or legs and founded a non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs. He is very inspiring!
In Matthew 25:14-29, talent refers to a monetary item of great worth. I like to think of our “talents” being just as valuable. We are all given different talents by God. Some of us have multiple, some just a few. No matter what talent God has given us if we use them for His purpose, they will grow, and we may even develop others. If we don’t use our talents or if we hide them then we are not doing God’s will.
It's not always easy to know what our talents are but if we pray for God to use us, He will. Before we know it, we will discover our talents, and they will grow and glorify Him. Pray about God using you. Follow His word and grow your talents so we can all grow His Kingdom. Let’s all be His hands and feet!
