Strong Roots

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:29-31 NKJV

A devotion for March 6th through the 12th

I was walking outside the other day looking at all the trees and I remembered something I had heard or read at some point.  It was about a study done in the desert where there was a dome built for them to grow things and see what would happen when they grew things and lived in this dome.  I think they wanted to see if people could be self-sufficient this way.  I don’t remember too many of the specifics but there was a small part that stuck with me.  When the trees reached a certain height, they fell over.

One of the things they learned was that without wind, the trees could not develop a strong root system.  I began thinking about this while walking.  The trees needed the adversity of the winds to build up strong root systems in order to stand tall.  This represents something for us too.

We need adversity, trials.  By dealing with adversity and how we deal with trials, we can develop strong roots too.  We need to rely on God, our sustainer, our strength, our savior.  By holding onto our heavenly father through times of adversity, it builds up our character and faith.  Our roots go deep holding onto Jesus.  We are strengthened and by this strength, building the strong root system, we become the people God intends us to be.  We become stronger and we stand tall.

Having a strong root system grounded in Christ, we are able to withstand the strong winds of strife that try and knock us down.  We then have more faith to stand strong and firm with our Lord.  Strength to withstand the storms of life.  Praise God for trials.  Praise God for His strength.
