Storm Clouds

But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

Devotion for April 16th through the 22nd and Midweek

Recently we have had some storms come through our area.  It’s springtime and that time of year for severe weather.  We have had magnificent clouds here and there, wonderful colors, heavy rain, small hail, and tornado watches and warnings.  It’s quite a mix of weather with warm one day and cool the next.  It’s hard to know from day to day what might develop with the weather.  I love the clouds though.  They can be so beautiful as the storm begins to blow in.  Looking at the clouds I began thinking about the storm clouds of life.

Just like the weather we have different seasons and different storms.  We might have a stretch of peaceful weather where we simply enjoy the day-to-day activities and life in general.  Then there are those times in our lives when storm clouds begin to roll in and before we know it, a storm nearly blows us away and we come crashing down.

The thing we often forget is the benefits of the storms.  The rain helps the flowers and plants grow.  The wind helps trees to strengthen their root system, so they don’t fall over.  Even after destruction from a storm, new life begins.  There are many ways God uses storms and weather of all kinds in beneficial ways.  God also uses the storms of life in the same manner for us.

God does not cause the storms of life, but He does use them for our good.  He uses them to strengthen our faith, our hold if you will, on and in Him.  He takes the bad situations and brings about good.  Sometimes we just don’t see it right away.  Sometimes we won’t really see the good until Jesus returns.  But there is always good brought about by our storms.  It’s all about how we face them.

Face the storms of life standing firm on His word.  Hold on to the truths and promises in His word.  Pray for strength and He will provide.  Through Him our weaknesses become strengths.  Praise Him through all the storms in this life and for the reward of peace in His kingdom when Jesus returns.

Praise His holy name!
