Stand Firm

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13 NIV

A Devotion for July 16th through the 22nd

We have a young man at church that has been in charge of planning a Vespers once a month on Saturday night to close out the Sabbath.  He does a wonderful job planning singing, one or two short presentations from other church members, and a thought-provoking scenario that he has us choose a side and discuss why we chose that side.  It has really been something that everyone has gotten behind.  It not only makes you think but it helps you on an individual basis think about how much you are standing firm with Bible truth.

We don’t often realize we might be rationalizing something that goes against Bible truth until we are put in a position where we need to really think about it in a real-world scenario and then state why we chose that answer.  I have found myself wondering if I am standing firm with the Bible, God’s word, or am I rationalizing something that actually goes against what God wants.  It can be challenging but it makes me realize I really need to get into God’s word and pray that He shows me the direction He wants me to go.  Not me deciding which way I think is easier or the best way.

We can easily be led astray in this world and feel like we are standing firm with Bible truth and God’s word when we are really choosing the option that is easier or more convenient.  Satan tries to sneak into our decisions, and we don’t even know he is swaying our thoughts.  It can be difficult, but we need to hold tight to His word and stay grounded in it. There is a saying “stand up for what is right, even if you stand alone”.  This is something I need to do more often. We are never alone because He is with us.

Study God’s word, pray for understanding, then ask for the strength to stand firm on His word.  It may make this world uncomfortable but the rewards at Jesus return are so worth it!
