Sabbath Rest

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Genesis 2:3 NKJV

A Devotion for June 4th through the 10th

I have learned so much through my study of the Bible.  There are Bible truths that many people distort or just plain don’t seem to understand.  Sometimes I think people don’t want to understand because they feel something is being taken away from them.  This is not how I see things.  As I learn I understand more and more that God is not trying to take things away from us, He is giving us so many blessings!  He is trying to protect us and save us from this sinful world.  He offers us so much more than we can possibly imagine.  We just need to study and understand.

I see God as a God of love. He is love! So many tales in the Bible speak of Him as nothing short of love incarnate.  One area where I see this has to do with the day I worship God.  I’m surprised more people don’t ask me why I worship on Saturday, the Sabbath.  They just smile and never ask why. Let’s see if I can explain a bit of why I worship God on the Sabbath.

It isn’t because I’m a Seventh Day Adventist.  It’s not because I have to.  It’s not because I am forced or giving up anything.  It’s simply because God set up the Sabbath at creation (Genesis 2:3) and asks us to remember it (Exodus 20:8-11).  It’s the only commandment that has the word “remember” in it.  We are to remember He created it and made it holy. This means it can’t be any day we choose; it must be His day.

On Sabbath, I don’t have to work, I get to rest.  There is nothing I have to do on Sabbath but enter into His rest.  Listening to His word refreshes my soul.  Talking with Him allows me to get so much off my mind.  I have no responsibilities.  For me, Sabbath is the most relaxing day of the week and something I look so forward to every week.  Even Jesus rested on the Sabbath and did not rise until Sunday after His crucifixion.  Not because He changed the day but because even He was following what God asks.  He was remembering the Sabbath.

Join me in a true Sabbath rest.  Let God refresh your body, mind, and soul.
