Reverence

Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.

1 Samuel 12:24 NKJV

A devotion for October 20th through the 26th

Today has been a busy day.  It started with a church board meeting as both my husband and I are on the board at church.  At one point a topic came up that expanded into other areas, but the one main theme stuck with me, reverence.

I won’t go into detail about how the conversation got there but the bottom line was reverence. We are all guilty and most of the time don’t even think about it or realize it.  We go to church, we do studies, we gather with church family, and enjoy visiting and spending time catching up.  It’s not a bad thing to catch up with our church family but are we paying attention to where and how?  Most of the time we are not.

We come in, say hello, hug, and begin to chat.  We talk as if we are at home or some other place where volume doesn’t matter. We laugh and just enjoy chatting. When it’s time for the worship service to start we slowly make our way into the sanctuary, continuing our conversations. Today as we discussed several issues, the subject of reverence came up.  We all need to be reminded of what this means.

When the door to the sanctuary opens and we walk through into His sanctuary, we need to show reverence.  We need to hush our voices.  Our phones need to be off or on silent. We need to show respect to the One who truly deserves respect and reverence more than anyone else. God is our everything.  He has provided us with all we need.  He died on a cross for us because of His immense love for every one of us.

Remember the price He paid for us.  He is our Creator and He is our Savior, our Redeemer.  He alone deserves respect and reverence. Hush your voice.  Bow your head.  He paid the price for us.  He deserves no less than complete reverence.  By showing Him reverence we thank Him for His great gift of life and love. Praise His Holy Name!
