Retirement

‘Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21 ESV

A devotion for March 3rd through the 9th

As my husband and I age we have been working on and planning our retirement.  Through the process we started with a Financial Planner years ago to help us make good decisions about our money and saving.  We have gotten good advice even though we have struggled paycheck to paycheck at times.  We have been in debt, upset that we let ourselves get in the hole like we did.  We have also been in pretty good shape, like we are right now.

We are in a place where the only real debt we have is our mortgage.  We have a budget with everything laid out so we can manage.  We have learned a lot, but not all of it from our financial advisor. You see, our financial advisor does not feel we should direct as much as we do to God.  On this we disagree but we have told him it is non-negotiable.

Our view on money has changed over the years.  Money is necessary in this life and this world.  It is necessary.  However, there is something far more important that many people miss.  You can’t take it with you!  Once life in this world is done and Jesus returns, where do you want to be?  Everything in and on this earth will be gone.  Jesus and heaven remain.  So where should you invest for the best return?  I know what I want to invest in!

Budget your finances, save for retirement, cover what needs covered as long as you live in this life but lay up your treasure in heaven!  Eternity is a long time and needs careful planning.  It’s the best retirement plan around!

Invest in Him with studies, prayer, and furthering His message to the world with Tithes and offerings.  The returns will last an eternity.
