Praying for Others

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:16 NIV

A devotional for February 6th through the 12th

Today I had a conversation with my daughter.  Recently she has been more open to my talking about God and sharing about God’s love and what He wants for us.  She has been more open lately to listening and talking.  She is even open to doing some of the things I suggest. God is truly great!

Do you get your feelings hurt by things other people say or do? I know we all do from time to time.  Often, we don’t understand why someone said what they said, or why they did what they did.  Maybe it was something like not wanting to talk to us.  I know that can be hard when we just want to talk to someone, and they don’t want to talk to us.  It hurts.

I believe in those times, we need to remember that we don’t always know what is going on in someone else’s life, so be kind, be forgiving, and pray for them.  Sometimes people don’t want to share what is happening in their lives.  That’s okay.  We need to remember that when someone is mean or pushes us away, or doesn’t want to talk, they may have something that is going on in their life.  We don’t know what that is, and we don’t need to know.  What we do need to do, is pray for them.

God wants us to pray.  God wants us to pray for ourselves, but He also wants us to pray for each other.  If someone does something that doesn’t sit right with us, rather than throwing it right back at them or being mean back to someone who was mean, pray for them.  Take a minute to pray and ask God to lift up the other person.  Ask God to let them see His love.

When we pray for others and offer forgiveness for anything they may have done that hurt our feelings, it heals us.  Turn it over to Him.  By praying for others, forgiving, and being kind, God shines down on us and heals our hearts.  Having a loving heart that prays for others instead of holding a grudge, does more good for ourselves and at the same time, helps to heal the other person as well.

Praise God for His strength, His forgiveness, and His love!
