Ponder This

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 NKJV

Midweek Thoughts

This morning as I worked, I was listening to some instrumental hymns when there was suddenly a Christian song that came on.  The playlist I listen to while I work occasionally will have a song with lyrics but is mostly instrumental.  I began listening to the words and very quickly found myself pondering the depth of God’s love.

I couldn’t tell you the name of the song or the singer.  My mind went to all the thoughts of how deep God’s love is for me, for each of us.  I began talking to God and while I went over all of it in my conversation with Him, I began to sob.

Think about it.  God knew before we were born, before He created Adam, He knew.  He made the decision that the only way to prove His love for us was to come down and live as one of us, as Jesus.  To experience life as a human, still carrying with Him his divinity.  Willingly giving up that divinity for a time to take on the burden of all sin.  Yes, all sin.  To carry it as He was dragged out of the Garden.  To take the beatings and abuse.  To take the punishment that was meant for each of us.  He knew we needed a redeemer.  He knew it would have to be Him.

Can you imagine that kind of love?  The depth of that love?  We can’t even fully grasp that kind of love.  When I ponder these thoughts of His walk to the cross, the price He paid, all for me!  It makes me cry.  I don’t deserve that kind of love, that kind of sacrifice.  None of us do.  But God!  He loves us so much He felt it was worth the risk of coming down here as Jesus, as a human, all out of love.

I can’t even properly write about the depth of His love and give it justice.  But I do ponder it frequently and feel the strong desire to give my all to Him.  All because I love Him and want to be with Him in eternity so I can praise Him and thank Him for that incredible love!

God is love. (1 John 4:8)
