Philippians 4:7 NKJV

A devotion for July 25th through the 31st

Life is not always easy.  The last few days have been challenging ones to say the least.  Life has a way of throwing things at us when we least expect it.  We think everything is going well and we know what tomorrow will bring then suddenly, life shifts.  The hardest times to go through are when we are in the process of losing someone very special to us.  That is happening right now for my family.

My mother-in-law is 93.  She has had a very long life filled with ups, downs, challenges, family, and so very much love.  We thought she was doing well this past week and then on Thursday, life changed.  She had a fall followed by a massive stroke.  At 93 you can imagine the path this is going.

We have been spending so much time with her as we don’t want her to be alone.  Going through this you have so many emotions, so many thoughts.  I have talked to God so much.  I spend a lot of time talking to God but right now, it gives me more comfort.  I know the things God has planned, I know His truth and His promises.  That gives me comfort.

My mother-in-law’s heart has belonged to God her whole life.  She has often told me she has God’s peace.  I truly believe that.  We have spent time singing hymns to her, reading God’s word, and just comforting her.  In this, we find comfort.  It will not get easier and there will be more sad days ahead but through it all, God will be there.  He always is.  He knows what we are going through.  He has been there.

God sent Jesus.  He knew what was going to happen and how important it was.  He knew what Jesus would go through and the separation they would experience through it.  I’m sure God felt much, if not way more, than I feel right now as I go through this.  God, and Jesus, did all this for me, for my mother-in-law, and for each and every one of us.  He felt it all first.  He offers His truth and promises as comfort for us.  I know He will see us through.

Turn to Him as I am.  He will be there holding your hand and loving you through it all.
