Our Story

I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart.

Jeremiah 24:7 ESV

A devotion for August 7th through the 13th

What’s your story?  We all have a story.  As our lives unfold year after year our story is written.  From the moment we are born, our story begins.  Everyone has a different story.  Many times, we feel like our story is not a big deal.  We feel like there are no exciting parts, nothing special, nothing anyone would care to read or hear.  Other times, our lives unfold with so much going on we just want peace and quiet.  We just want things to settle down and be boring.

Some stories have many high points and things seem to go well no matter what.  Some have no worries or feel like they have none.  Others feel like they are just not going to make it.  Life is wearing them down, stepping on them every time they feel like they are going forward.  One step forward, three back.  Life can go smoothly, or life can be filled with challenges.  Most of the time it’s a mix of both.

Often, we feel like we are walking through this life alone.  We struggle, we stress.  Some fight addictions, financial setbacks, job loss, the loss of someone they couldn’t imagine living without.  Some celebrate victories and successes.  As I said before, even a mixture of all of it.

Life is messy but we need to remember we are not alone.  Even on the dark, depressing times when we sit on the floor alone sobbing our hearts out, God is there.  He wants us to reach for Him.  He wants to comfort us.  He wants to heal us.  He never turns away and He has a plan for each of us.  He is in our story.

I think back to times so long ago and I see where He was there.  I didn’t know it but now I see it.  In all the darkest times, He was there, guiding me through my story.  A gentle voice nudging me in the direction He wanted me to go.  He had a plan for me.  He still has a plan for me.  He has a plan for each of us.

Never forget, no matter how low, how dark, how scary a situation in your life is, He is there.  He is with us through it all.  He is in our story.  Trust in Him.  He will pull us through every page of our story.
