Mended Hearts

And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

Malachi 4:6 NKJV

Midweek thoughts

Relationships between parents and their children can be challenging at times.  Sometimes things happen, sometimes we aren’t even sure what happened, and distance grows between you.  Sometimes we look back and are not sure how the years have passed by so quickly and the distance become so great.  If we take the time to talk with God and think about the troubled relationship, often God will lead us to try and close the gap, to repair what had been broken.

It’s not easy trying to close that gap.  Sometimes we get discouraged thinking there is no way we will ever be able to repair what was broken, to restore the relationship, maybe even make it better than ever before.  It’s a challenge but if we don’t give up, if we pray, and we keep trying to move forward, God will answer.  Sometimes it could take years before the first communication actually happens, but it can truly be worth it.

Exodus 20:12, the 5th commandment, says “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” (NKJV) This is something to ponder and meditate on.  Once you do, and when you talk with God about this, you will be led to mend a damaged relationship.  The beautiful thing is, it can happen faster and better than you ever imagined.

For years you have no contact, none.  Then one day you find that parent, you get contact information, and you reach for the phone and call.  Then, through the power of the Holy Spirit, the relationship is healed.  Your heart is once again happy and you have a day where you receive beautiful flowers with a loving note that was sent from far away.  This is the day you praise God for His love and the love He has mended in your heart.

God wants us to return to Him just like He wants us to have a loving relationship with our parents.  Show God your love and see the wonderful, beautiful message He sends to your heart.
