And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Yesterday at church I realized my hands were so dry I went to the lady’s room to get some lotion. I started rubbing my hands together to spread the lotion into my skin and as I did, I thought about something, I don’t use enough lotion. I know I get dry hands, especially when doing certain tasks, but still, I forget to put lotion on my hands until right before bed. If I would just use lotion more often my hands would not get so dry, and I would not get as much pealing skin around my nails. Still, I forget.
As I thought about this, I suddenly realized it is like our need for God. We often forget to open our Bibles. We get busy and forget to do morning devotions. We get a call, talk to friends, have situations happen and we forget to pray. We have a busy week, get tired, and decide we will stay home instead of going to church. We want to just sleep in. So many different things in this world that get in the way, and we let it. And when we go without God we dry up.
If we could find a way to remember to put Him first, to start the day with Him, to go to Him throughout the day, we would function so much better! Just like lotion soothes our dry hands we need Him to soothe our dry hearts. He softens us and helps us to be healthy. He refreshes our souls and builds us up with more strength. We need Him every day, every hour, every minute. With Him we just flake away like dry skin.
Grab your lotion and make sure to use it multiple times a day. Better yet, grab your Bibles, read your devotions, bow your head and pray. No matter what is going on, good or bad, go to Him. Let Him soothe your heart and soul.
