Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Are there things that are important to you? Things that sit about your house. What are your feelings about them? If something happened to them tomorrow, would you be able to live without them? I’m not talking about clothes or things that we need in order to live. I’m talking about things, stuff. I have been thinking about things we have in our house and finally decided it was time. Time to de-clutter. More importantly, time to purge the idols I have been holding onto.
We all have things, stuff, that we hold onto. It’s important to look at the things you hold onto and decide the purpose. Is there a purpose or is it something that just holds your heart hostage? It’s okay to have a few things that are mementos, but we need to make sure we are not going overboard or placing things above God.
I have this collection of bears. Actually, more than one. It’s not just a few, it’s a few hundred. I loved them when I started collecting them. My mother bought me most of them. I have a cabinet that is literally full. With my growing relationship to God, I discovered that my feelings toward these bears have changed. They no longer hold the same importance they once did. My heart has been changing as God works on it.
I am now boxing up most of the bears and getting rid of needless clutter. By doing this, I am growing more and more in my relationship to my heavenly Father. God needs to come first, always. Whether it is a relationship, a job, or “stuff” around your house, make God central. When you put God first, where He belongs, He begins to work on your heart. I ask for God to clean my heart and make it pure. I believe He is doing just that. I am by no means perfect, but I am growing. I believe in the right direction. I place God in the most important spot of all. The center of my heart.
Put God where He needs to be in your life and watch as He changes your heart. Watch as the blessings unfold! Praise God!
