How Soon is Soon?

‘Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

John 14:1-3 NKJV

A devotional for December 11th through the 17th

In Sabbath School and during the church service, the topic of how soon is soon came up.  We discussed, we listened, we studied all about Jesus’ return.  This topic comes up quite often.  Many times, through the centuries, people have been disappointed because they were sure Jesus would return in their lifetime.

The apostles were sure Jesus would return shortly after his ascension.  In 1844 many individuals were sure Jesus would be returning on a specific date.  Many people today have given up, feeling that it will never happen.  Everyone was sure it would happen long before now, so people feel it just isn’t going to happen.

The truth is, Jesus will return soon.  We don’t know the day or the hour much less the year, but it will happen.  God’s time is not the same as ours.  Plus, there is something else to keep in mind.  Our faith.

Rather than wondering when Jesus will return, we need to make sure we are ready when He does.  Our time on this earth is not promised.  We could live to be 100 or we could die in an accident tomorrow.  We need to always be working on our relationship with Him, ensuring we are ready at any moment.  Afterall, when we do die, we sleep, we know nothing.  We are out of time to give our hearts to Him.

The amazing part is death will be but a moment.  The next thing we will know Jesus will be coming out of the clouds with a loud sound.  He will be there to raise us up with Him in the sky.

Be ready, prepare.  His soon coming is sooner than we think.
