Honoring Fathers

’I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.’

2 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV

A Devotion for June 18th through the 24th

Today is another Father’s Day.  Every year we take this time to honor our fathers.  All are honored, including those that perhaps are not biologically fathers but still are looked at as fathers.  Fatherhood is such a great calling for any man.  Any man who steps up to take on the role of being a father, in any capacity, deserves to be honored.  My biggest prayer for fathers, follow our Heavenly Father’s guidance.

It is not an easy task to be a father, and sometimes you feel as if you are not doing a great job.  Any parent often feels this way.  But then there are those moments when something happens and you say, “maybe I didn’t do such a bad job after all”.  When we take the time to reflect the image of God and His love to others it makes such a big impression.

Sometimes as children go through the difficult transition into adulthood, they stray and get off course.  They pull away and do whatever they can to do what they want and show they are an adult and capable.  It’s a hard time in life.  Some never return but most, in time, will return.  What is the best thing you can do for your children?  Surrender them to God.  Pray for them and ask God to take over and do what we mere mortals cannot.  It’s not easy, but sometimes it is the only thing we can do.

Surrendering our children, or anything that is a struggle, to Him allows Him to work in ways we cannot.  God is always with our children, and us.  He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  We may not realize He is there, but He is.  He has claimed us as His children and provided instruction.

Follow His way as a Father. He is the best example and will lead down the right path, fulfilling all His promises.  Let’s honor our Heavenly Father on this day, just like we honor our earthly fathers.  What a way to say thank you for all they have done for us.  What a way to show Him our love.
