His Gift

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

A devotion for December 25th through December 31

I love Isaiah.  I love all of the Bible and am always in awe of how much the Old Testament speaks of Jesus.  So much of it speaks of God’s gift, the greatest gift.  It’s freely given, freely offered.  His gift was that of Salvation, redemption.  A gift of mercy and forgiveness.  All this wrapped in cloth laying in a manger.

A small babe, coming into the world the same as you and me.  The first cry, clearing the lungs.  Then the small child settling into Mary’s arms and gently drifting off to sleep.  A hard concept for us to grasp.  This small baby born to save the world.

Do we accept His gift?  Do we show our appreciation for what He has done? It’s not hard and so worth it!  When we accept His gift, take it into our hearts, it grows within us.  We need to nurture this gift because as we do, it grows and at the same time our actions and the way we live our lives shows God our appreciation for His gift.

Welcome the gift.  Take His gift into our hearts.  Let it grow, nurture its growth.  Show gratitude for His amazing gift.  Let His light shine through us.  Let the world hear and see our hearts praising His name.  Sing Hallelujah for the birth of our Savior.  “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.
