Gratitude

in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Midweek thoughts

The other day I happened upon a saying, and I had to look it up.  It was something like this quote from Sam Lefkowitz, “When asked if my cup is half-full or half-empty my only response is that I am thankful I have a cup.”. I really liked this, and it spoke to me about the time of year we are getting into.  This is the month of Thanksgiving.  It’s a time to think about all the ways we have and can express gratitude.

Often, we spend our time trying to decide if our cup is half-full or half-empty.  Is it good or is it bad?  Where does it all fit in the grand scheme of things.  But do we ever spend much time just being grateful we have a cup?  Think about that.  Is our time spent contemplating whether our life is full or how empty things are?  What we should be doing is being grateful for what we do have.

Today, I am grateful I have a cup.  I am thankful my Heavenly Father fills my cup, even if it’s only half filled.  I am thankful for the trials and struggles that lead me to pray, to communicate with Him.  I am thankful for every drop, or moment, I am given in this world.  I am grateful for opportunities to share and to fill other people’s cups, at least a little.  I long for an eternity filled with more moments than I could ever imagine.

How is your cup being filled?  Are you helping to fill other people’s cups?  Let God fill your cup and then take that cup and help fill others.  That’s what He wants for each of us.  And soon, He will give us an eternity with a cup that is overflowing.
