Giving Thanks

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 107:1 NKJV

A devotion for November 26th through December 2nd

This past week, here in America, we celebrated Thanksgiving.  This is one of my favorite holidays because it is about gratitude.  It can be a challenging day for many though.  Those who don’t have family to gather with, those who have lost a loved one, those who can’t be home that day for whatever reason, and those who are hurting from everything this world throws at us.  While many people are having a wonderful time with family and friends, many are alone or don’t feel like celebrating.  It is the beginning of a season that many struggle with.

It was a struggle for me as well.  So many losses over the years have taken a toll.  Even though I found myself sad part of the time I did, and do, find reason to be thankful.  I feel that no matter what we are going through, we need to remember to look for the things we must be grateful for, no matter how small they seem.  Today I want to look at things I am grateful for and maybe some of them are things you can be grateful for too.

I am grateful each morning I wake for God has seen fit to grant me another day to serve Him.  I am grateful for my family and friends that I still have, especially my husband.  Many may be far away, but we are still connected, and I am grateful for each one.  I am grateful for having my needs met and thank God for providing.  I am thankful for the memories I have of those who are gone for they bring me joy at the wonderful gift it was having them be a part of my life, my story.

I am most thankful to my Heavenly Father who has been there through all my highs and lows throughout this life.  He guided me even when I didn’t know Him.  He was there waiting for me to reach for Him.  He was whispering in my heart words of comfort.  He is always there, helping me to move forward through this life.  And He will come one day soon to lift me up, along with all others who believe, wipe away our tears and bring us to live for eternity in His glorious Kingdom.  I’m so thankful for the hope He gives of His soon return.
