Friendship

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

John 15:15 NKJV

I had a lengthy conversation with my daughter today.  Something she said got me thinking.  She said if she were to lose her one good friend’s friendship, she would lose everything.  I had to stop her.  This statement had to be addressed.  Here are my thoughts on this.

We are all flawed.  We all have our issues.  We make poor choices and must learn from them.  Sometimes our friendships suffer.  Something happens and we could even lose a friend.  None of us wants to lose a good friend.  Friends are important.  They get us through tough times.  They help us have good times and help us laugh.  No one wants to lose a friend.

We must remember though, there is One who is our friend no matter what.  There is One who is there for us always, waiting for us to reach out and take His hand.  The best friend any of us could ever have.  One who made the ultimate sacrifice to save us.  Jesus.

Yes, we need to do what we can to sustain our friendships while in this life, but we need to also remember, Jesus needs to come first.  He is the most important friend any of us can have.  What He promises is eternal life.  All this in this life is temporary, God is eternal.  God’s peace is eternal.  If we lose a friend in this life, it is sad but temporary. If we lose Jesus, we lose eternity.  Let that put it in perspective.  Temporary or eternity?  It’s our choice.
