Faith of Jesus

Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.’

Matthew 26:42 NKJV

A devotion for July 28th through August 3rd

These days having strong faith, faith like Jesus, seems impossible.  The world continues to spiral into a deeper, darker pit with no hope of seeing light again.  Day after day we see it all around us.  On the news, on the internet, on social media.  No matter where we are or what we are doing, it’s there.  So many things that make us wonder if a better day could really come.

My husband said something tonight wondering how things keep getting worse.  Why do people keep doing the things they are doing.  Why does the world keep spinning more and more out of control.  Devastation, wars, disasters, crime, so many things going farther and farther away from Him and into the dark pit of despair. All I could say is Satan is busy.  He never stops. Satan is doing everything he can to turn people away from God.

So how do we hold on to faith?  How do we have the faith of Jesus? In this world those are hard questions to answer. Jesus showed faith like no other.  Knowing the path He would walk to the cross, knowing everything He would have to go through, all the pain, He still went down that path.  He turned it all over saying “Your will be done”. That amount of faith is so hard to comprehend. Just like that amount of love.

The thing that comes to my mind is I can’t.  On my own I don’t have the ability to have faith of any kind.  I am weak.  I fall time and time again.  I have nothing I can do even though I try.  I am incapable.  I am no different than anyone else struggling through this life in this sin filled world.  The only thing we can do is turn it over to Him.  Know that He had that amazing amount of faith that led Him on that path to the cross.  He did it for love because He is love. All we can do is hold onto Him, His promise, and the truth that He is coming again.

As the world continues to spin out of control, know that He is still in control.  His plan is unfolding.  He is coming soon.  Have faith in His love.
