Do you know Me?

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

John 17:3 NKJV

Midweek thoughts

Do you know Jesus?  Do you know about Him, what He’s like, who He is?  Do you spend time really getting to know Him?  Many people profess to know Jesus.  But how deeply have they delved into the Bible and thought about who He is and what He has done, and will do?

Many people struggle with so many things.  Drugs, alcohol, gambling, depression, anxiety, financial difficulties, infertility, illness, and loneliness to name a few.  The list could go on and on.  We all have our struggles, our difficulties.  Everyone is different in what they deal with and how they deal with it.  We are, after all, individuals who have been given free will by our Heavenly Father.

No matter what we are dealing with, no matter what our situation is, He is there.  He knows everything, even the things we don’t want to speak out loud or think about.  The deepest, darkest parts of who we are, He knows.  The incredible thing is, He loves us anyway.  He is right there, waiting for us to grab hold of Him.  He never said it would be easy, but He did promise He would be right there with us through it all.

Spending time studying His word, reading the versus about Jesus, His life and His death, really thinking about it and putting ourselves right there in that time and place can invoke so many feelings.  I don’t know about you but the more time I spend really thinking about it and how it must have been, all the pain and anguish, I want to cry.  It makes me cry because I’m one of the ones who did not see Him for who He was.

Going through the story of the crucifixion, I find that I hurt for Him.  I am sad that He had to do what He did because of my sin.  At the same time, I cry because of the depth of the love that He showed by doing what He did.  The love He has for me, a sinner.  The love He has for each of us.  He is love.

Spend time getting to know Jesus.  If you feel like you know Him, spend time deepening your relationship with Him.  The more time we spend with Him, the more time we will get to spend with Him in eternity.
