Convicted

And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 16:8 NKJV

Midweek Thoughts

Something that is occasionally mentioned by fellow church members is the word convicted.  I have never heard it talked about before my walk with God started but I do hear it quite often now.  More importantly, I experience it.

There have been times over the last few years as I journey down this path with God that I have found myself actually feeling “convicted”.  This feeling happens when we do something that goes against God’s word and the Holy Spirit is working on our hearts.  We start realizing that maybe there is something we need to change.  Something we need to alter to be more in line with God’s truth.  When we feel convicted, we begin to change and grow.

There have been a few things that the Holy Spirit has nudged my heart to look more towards God’s word.  I’m sure there will be more.  Some of these things have been slow with the complete change in my behavior.  Sometimes it takes a while for us to fully understand what it is God is trying to teach us but if we listen and study, we can get to that point where the change happens.  It only happens with God’s help.

The Sabbath is a big one for most people, like me, who were not raised in the church and were not exposed to it and what God says about the Sabbath.  I had never heard about it before.  At first, I understood that the Bible does say the seventh day is the true Sabbath but understanding how to respect it took some time.  Now I look forward to the Sabbath and so enjoy my time with Him.  I am refreshed.

The Holy Spirit nudges our hearts to follow God’s word, God’s truth.  Once we are convicted, our hearts and actions change.  Our walk brings us closer and closer to Him and His eternal promise.
