Contemplation

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:2 NKJV

Midweek thoughts

Here we are again, just a few short days away from welcoming in another year.  It amazes me that we are entering 2023.  Time seems to go faster and faster each year.  When I first became an adult back in the early 80’s I thought 2023 was so far away as if I would never get there.  Here I am, living in the future I never thought would be.  It just seemed too far away at the time.

Each year at this time I find myself spending so much time contemplating how the year started, how things went, what all happened during the year, and where I want to be in the next.  This year is no different.  I always have hope each year for great things to happen.  Every year I hope for things to go smoothly with no bumps.  It doesn’t happen that way and I’m starting to realize that’s okay.  I have grown through all the bumps.

God uses everything, good and bad, to help us grow.  It’s important to contemplate not just what you learn and study in the Bible, but also the life around you.  God is in every part of it, every day, and every hour.  We often don’t realize it, but He is there.  Working for our good.  Guiding us towards the promises He plans to fulfill.

Every year, as the year starts, I contemplate what I want to do to grow my relationship with Him.  Every year I start a new devotional book that brings so many things to mind as well as each Bible study, church service, and prayer.  More and more my walk with Him leads me closer and closer to His promise.  Each year brings new hope for Jesus' return and an eternity of peace with no sin.

I don’t know when Jesus will return, but I do know He will be there with open arms.  He will welcome us all home.  That makes each year important for contemplation, learning, and growth with Him.

As the new year begins, make plans to walk with Him through every day.  As we do, our hearts will grow stronger with Him, and we will walk toward His promise.
