Cobwebs

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 NKJV

A devotion for September 4th through the 10th

This time of year, and all during summer, I seem to notice cobwebs. At home and at church, they seem to be everywhere. I could be talking to my husband about something, on the phone, doing something around the house, or sitting in a Sabbath School room trying to lead a class and suddenly my attention is drawn to a cobweb.

Often, we don’t notice them. But then, when the sun is brightly shining through a window, we see them. The light illuminating the cobweb and bringing it to our attention. Now we see it and feel the need to do something about it.

Seeing the sunlight sparkle through a cobweb yesterday something came to my mind. It’s a bit like God and how He points things out to us. We often have things, some good some bad, floating around in our minds, maybe even our character. Things that need brought out and addressed. We don’t often “see” what these things are until God shines His light through our cobwebs.

Reading God’s word often shines a light on those things we need to address.  Perhaps it’s something that we are neglecting, or avoiding, and God brings it to our attention. Do we leave the cobweb dangling where we see it? Or do we get a duster and do something about it? God wants us to get that duster!

When God’s light shines on the cobwebs in your life, clean them. Take your duster, many times in the form of God’s word, and clean those cobwebs out. By doing this, we are left with the clean beauty that God has given us.
