Adopted by God

having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Ephesians 1:5 NKJV

A devotion for March 24th through the 30th

This past week my husband and I adopted two new dogs.  Well, they are actually puppies.  Since we are older now than the last time we adopted puppies, it’s been a bit of a challenge.  The one is older and pretty much potty trained.  The other is only two months old so is quite a ways away from that.  You can imagine the challenge and the work involved with cleaning and washing after accidents as well as the floor being covered with puppy pads.

We are exhausted with all that is involved with caring for puppies.  The lack of sleep has taken a bit of a toll.  At one point my husband said to me “we can take him back”.  I quickly said “no”.  We talked about how neither of us would ever take back a dog we adopted.  When we adopted them and took them out of the shelter, we brought them home for them to live with us for the rest of their lives.  It is a responsibility we do not take lightly.  Our last two dogs were with us their whole lives.  We will not give up on the new puppies.  They are now our family.

Thinking about this reminded me about how God has “adopted” us as His children.  We rebel, turn away, think we know best.  We make messes of our lives and make poor decisions.  No matter what we do, He is right there with open arms.  We are His children.  His love for us knows no bounds!  He paid the price to adopt us as His on the cross.  His intention is to keep us with Him for eternity.  What an amazing example of love!  It says in Jeremiah 32:38 NKJV “They shall be My people, and I will be their God;”.

Praise Him for the love and grace He gives us.  Praise Him for being our Heavenly Father, adopting us to Him for eternity.  What an awesome example of love!
