A Positive Attitude

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

1 Timothy 4:4 ESV

A devotion for August 22 through the 28th

What kind of an attitude do you have?  Do you see the glass as half full or half empty?  Where do your thoughts go?  Do they go to the good things you see or to the bad things that are out there?  It is easier for most to see the negative or bad in the world then the good.  It seems to be human nature to grasp the negative before the positive.  Not for everyone, but for most.

It could be big things or small things and depending on how we see them could mean the difference between having a good day versus a bad one.  Perhaps you look out the window and see it is raining.  Many people don’t want to see the rain as they feel it could ruin their day or what they are doing.  Look at it this way, the rain will water the plants and grass to help them grow.  The grass turns green and the flowers bloom.  Even something like a grass fire or forest fire.  Yes, it can be destructive and cause so much damage.  Especially big fires.  However, after a fire there is new life.  A seed for a pine tree is embedded in a pinecone.  The seed will not start growing until the heat of fire pops it out of the cone.  New trees, new grass, new flowers begin to grow. A renewal to an area that perhaps needed renewed.

There is so much out there that is negative, big and small, but the attitude you have towards it and what could come from it could make such an impact on how your day goes and how things go after.  Look outside and see the many creations God has made.  Man tries to change things but God still comes through.  He still shines down on the earth.  Keeping hold of Him and being grateful for all good things that are all around us will help us to stand firm through the fire.  To know that there will be a renewal.  God is still there.

Keeping a positive attitude, seeing all the little things around us that are good and being grateful for all the good, helps us overall to be in a good place even during the storms.  Philippians 2:5 says “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” NKJV.  Turn all the bad over to God, He will take care of it.  Keep your heart close to Him and He will sustain you.  Handle all the storms the way Jesus did, calmly and with prayer to our Heavenly Father.

No matter what you see about you, look for the good, look for the positive, see God all around you.  By focusing on the positive it can change your perspective and your day.
