A Great Calling

In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.

Proverbs 14:26 NKJV

A devotional for June 19th through the 25th

Today is Father’s Day once again.  Every year at this time we have the opportunity to say thank you to our dads for all they have done for us.  I am especially grateful today to have my dad back in my life.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to show our love to the one that not only gave us life but has been there to mold us into the people we are today.  Not all fathers take up this challenge and see it through, for them I pray for God to move in their hearts.  Being a dad is so important.  For the ones that are not biologically fathers but help in raising and molding a child, we praise you as well.  The love of a dad is so important.

Giving oneself to the growth of a child, either yours biologically or not, is a great calling.  We should praise all who accept this calling and become a great influence in a child’s life.  Being a positive influence on a child is a wonderful thing and all who take up that calling and give their hearts to it are showing the love of God to that child.  What a great thing to do, show love.

On this day, I would also like to praise my Heavenly Father.  He has been there from before I was born and offers love more abundantly than anyone could.  His love guides me.  His word molds me.  His sacrifice for me, for all of us, is the greatest ever known and speaks of His amazing love.  I am grateful for my earthly dad and equally grateful to my Heavenly Father, who also guides my dad here on earth.

God calls all men to be upright, loving dads.  Not just to their own children but to all children.  Accepting this call and putting your whole heart into it is the greatest gift you can give of yourself.  Continue to mold the young.  Answer God’s call.  It gives refuge to all who need God’s caring love.
