A Day Late

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Midweek Thoughts

I have been a bit off this week.  My work gives us Juneteenth off, so I did not have to work on Monday.  It seems when there is a holiday on a Monday, and sometimes later in the week, it can throw us off.  That happened to me this week.  Somehow, I did not fully realize it was Wednesday yesterday and when I started today, I thought today was Wednesday.  For a brief period of time.  Being a day off I started to think about the times we get off just a bit, not just with days.

We all get off on details, events, timelines, and so forth.  We sometimes relay a story, and the details may be just a bit off from what really happened.  We might read or hear something and feel like we need to adjust it just a bit to fit in better because it’s just a bit off of what we think or feel.  This can happen with something small and insignificant to something so much more important, like God’s word.

We, as sinful humans, often change what we feel God’s word is saying to us.  We study, read, discuss, but there is something that we just feel shouldn’t apply to us.  “That’s not what He means” we say to ourselves.  We begin to justify our view, even when it differs from His.  We look for our meaning and not His.  We look for comfort instead of correction.  We paint the picture a different way than what is really described.  What seems harmless has eternal consequences.

Take time to really study God’s word.  Read, consult various study guides, talk with others, and most importantly, pray.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the study.  Pray for wisdom to see what God is really saying.  Pray for God’s truth to speak to us and correct us.  Without the Holy Spirit guiding our study we can become lost; we can get off the path to His truth.

Pray daily for the truth to speak to you.  It will guide you to His eternal promise.
