He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
Bible Verse Thoughts
The above Bible verse is one of my husband's favorites. It hangs on our wall, a gift from a friend and previous pastor. This verse says so much with just a few words. These are some of the thoughts I have as I read and think about this verse and what it means, at least to me.
"He shall cover you with His feathers". The Lord covers you. It's like He is taking you into His arms and holding you close, protecting you. Covering you with His righteousness. There is nothing on this earth we, as humans, can do for ourselves. We often fool ourselves into thinking we did something great, accomplished something good, or did good with whatever task we were doing at the time. In reality, we could do nothing without God's grace. I remind myself of this all the time. When I have a great day at work, I praise God. When things don't go well, I blame myself for not putting trust in Him to get me through. I can do nothing without God. We would do well to remember to praise God for every breath we take.
I am thankful for God covering me with His feathers for "under His wings you shall take refuge". I find myself more and more turning to God, as I should. As we all should. When things are difficult, I take refuge in His word, His truth. Turning toward God in times of trouble or sadness brings me joy. God's truth and grace lighten my mood and bring me peace. I know ultimately God is in control and knows what is best for me. I may not always like the answers I feel He is giving me but I know He knows best. I know He has a plan for me. I know God is great!
"His truth shall be your shield and buckler". What great peace there is in knowing that God's truth shall be my shield. Often times we start to let our thoughts drift in ways they should not. Negativity and things of this world creep in clouding our thoughts and turning us towards places and things we should not go. Things that are false, lies, just there to make us think it is true or the way we should go. Sometimes they are even disguised as pleasures, luring us into darkness. I find that turning to God's word, God's truth, I can put up a shield against all those things. Turning to, and following, God's word and truth leads me into light and peace. This is where we all should be. This is where we truly want to be. Where there is light, goodness, peace, and love. That is what God offers. I am so thankful for God being my protector, my shield, and sending me a Savior, a Redeemer, to guide me home.
All these thoughts, and possibly more, came from just this one small verse. There are so many more like it in God's Word. So many verses that teach and show the way to God's love. What are your thoughts on this verse? What does it mean to you? What is your favorite verse? I hope you share!
