No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
Candles are wonderful things. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and fragrances. They can be small tealights in a votive or a large jar candle that brightens and drifts pretty fragrances throughout the room. They come in very handy during storms when the power goes out and you need to light up the room. They can also be decorative, setting the mood for a relaxing evening. Candles are versatile as well as comforting.
In the Bible, candlelight is often used to represent God’s light, His word. The Bible also talks about God’s light leading our path. Jesus was called the light of the world. Jesus also called for us to let our light shine.
God wants us to spread His light, His word. God does not want us to hide our light. Light will not illuminate a room or the mind if it is hidden under a bushel. We must let our light shine and show God’s light, His word, to others. By shining our light and sharing it with others it will bring broken, hurting people to see the light and see Jesus’s love. It will make the redeemer visible. That is what God wants. He wants all to see His light and come to Him.
