His Will be Done

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

A devotion for April 14th through the 20th

This past week, my husband and I were doing the Sabbath School lesson and when we finished the whole week, we were reading the Inside Story that is at the end of the week.  There was a small part that really struck me and got me thinking.

It was about a young gymnast who found out she would have to miss the once-a-year special showing because it was on Sabbath.  Her mother advised her to pray and let God handle it.  The girl prayed for two days.  God did indeed handle it and had the competition changed to Sunday, so the young gymnast was able to participate.  The part that struck me was the prayer.  That is how we should all pray.

The prayer was very basic according to the story.  It went “Dear God, I am very sad to hear the news that I will miss the show, but Your will be done.”  The girl was going to stand by God and go to church on the Sabbath.  What I noticed was nowhere did it say, “could you please do this” or “please do that”.  She asked for nothing to be done but God’s will.

I want to remember this, and this is how I want to pray.  Praise God, thank God, and ask for nothing but His will to be done.  We should all pray this way.

God hears, God answers.  In His time and His way.  His will be done!
